Divergent Movie Casting and News!

Perhaps some of you might have heard of that book above? Perhaps some of you might have read it? Maybe a few less of you read my review on in it in which I freaked out about how much I loved it and how last year it's sequel was my favorite book and the year before, it was my favorite book. Well, it's coming to the big screen and the casting rumors have just begun.

First thing you need to know is it will start filming in April in Chicago. According to the Examiner.com, it's going to have a $40 million budget.

Second thing you need to know is that Tris has been cast. It's final so that's it. The person they cast is...

Shailene Woodley (The Secret Life of the American Teenager, The Descendants)

This was announced about a month ago and Roth said she was okay with the choice. The reason being is that Roth wanted someone slight of frame, somebody with nothing on their bones because that is where Tris's power comes from. People underestimate her. I was a little worried about this choice but I've decided to watch The Descendants before I pout. I've heard she is really good in that and that is ultimately what I want to see the actress playing Tris as...a really good actress.

Now, the last thing you need to know is they haven't cast Four yet. There were rumored to be four actors reading but it looks like they've narrowed it down to three. Here are the men in the front line to play Four. They all had readings with Woodley:

Lucas Till (X-Men First Class)
He happens to be my favorite of the three purely on looks. I think he's about the right age and would work really well for Four's part. I haven't seen him in a lot so I can't really say if he's a good actor but I think he'd do well. He was in the running for Peeta too and I thought he'd be most excellent in that role as well.

Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Great Expectations)
He's really not a bad option either. Definitely looks the part and though I haven't seen any of his movies, I haven't heard that he's a poor actor. I'd be happy if he was chosen as well.

Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four, Magic Mike)
Pettyfer's been rumored to have read twice for this part so there is a strong chance it could go to him. While he's been in the most movies I've seen and done well in them, I'm just not too crazy on him being cast. Maybe it's because he seems like the obvious choice or maybe because so many people wanted him for Jace from The Mortal Instruments and he was just not interested. If he is cast, I won't be unhappy, I just think he might be a little old for the part.

Do you guys have a favorite for Four? I'm just not really sure but if I had to choose, I think I'd prefer to see it go to either Till or Irvine. Can't wait to hear what you think!

Beautiful Creatures Movie Posters

Today I thought I'd showcase the Beautiful Creatures posters that have been released as of late. I swear, everything I see about this movie makes me want to see it more and I have got to get to these books. They've jumped to the top of my TBR pile. Anyway, here's the original one:
I love that this one captures the gothic, romantic feel of the old south. That is what made me pick up the very first novel originally and it is one of my favorite things about reading literature from the south. Everything has the old timey feel which is romantic and just a little spooky.

Here's the new book cover on the same backdrop with the cast:
Again, I love how this captures the feel of the book while adding in the movie. I actually think this is a very successful movie cover tie-in.

Here's a large promotional poster featuring the cast:

I saw this beauty hanging up in my movie theater and it was huge! I loved looking at it.

And now here are the individual character posters!

Lena:
I love this because she looks powerful and fierce. We're definitely getting a strong vibe from her and she is still looking girly in her awesome black dress.

Ethan:
Again, they were able to capture this moody background with the moss hanging from the trees. The actor himself isn't as impressive in his regular guy clothes but that is the character he is playing...a regular guy.

Ridley:
Yeah, and here we thought Lena was fierce. This outfit and pose could cut any man or woman down to size in a second. I wouldn't be messing with her any time soon. Gorgeous!

Amma:
This is a great shot and I love hos the sunlight is bursting through her arm which suggests a hint of magic from those hands.

Link:
I think this outfit choice is more interesting than Ethan's because it tells me a lot about the character. He almost looks like he's dressed in an elderly man's outfit. That tagline "friendship is sometimes led astray" has me very curious.

Ms. Lincoln:
She looks like the normal Southern lady but I love that she was put on a dark background with a dark tagline. It lets us know there is some bad stuff brewing just underneath her polished exterior.

Macon:
Again, a well dressed man in light clothing set against a dark background with a menacing tagline. Not all is what it seems!

It looks to me like the makers of this film really anted to do it right. From the posters to the not overly cheesy movie trailer, they are hitting the mark on every front. I'll tell you what, I was excited about the casting choice (based solely on acting chops) before but after seeing everything they are putting out and their attention to detail, I am dying now. This is just awesome!

In case you happened to miss the movie trailer, check it out:

So are you as stoked as I am? Sound off below!

Beautiful Creatures Movie Trailer

For those of you who haven't seen it, the Beautiful Creatures movie trailer was released today and it looks a little bit epic. I've been meaning to read this series (heck, I have all three) but now it looks like I'm going to have to step it up into high gear. What I love is that they seemed to capture the moody and dark setting and I'm already addicted.

Check out this movie poster which totally makes me want to dive in now:

This movie has got a killer cast with Emmy Rossum, Viola Davis and Emma Thompson. I also love that the two leads are unknowns. Check out the trailer and I defy you to tell me you aren't sold:

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Movie First Photos

You might have just heard of a little book turning into a movie called City of Bones written by Cassandra Clare. Well, filming started on it a few days ago in Toronto and you can bet people have been on set snapping photos. Another thing that you'll be able to tell from these photos? The casting is perfect and the studio wants to do this movie right. I hope you'll see what I mean by checking out the photos of the cast below dawning their character's clothes.

First up, we've got Clary (Lily Collins) and Simon (Robert Sheehan):

Lily Collins as Clary:

Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), Isabelle (Jemima West) and Alec (Kevin Zegers) looking badass in Shadowhunter garb:

With a cast also including Lena Headey (Jocelyn Fray), Johnathan Rhys Meyers (Valentine) and Godfrey Gao, I'm willing to bet this movie is going to be a smash. They've loaded it up with talented actors and so far, I can't see how they've gone wrong.

I'm completely jazzed by the photos I've seen so far. Seeing Bower in his Jace costume has definitely convinced me that he is right for the part. Instead of being so handsome its dizzying, he actually looks a little rough around the edges (though still handsome) which makes him more interesting in my opinion. I've never had a problem with Collins as Clary because I think she's great and every movie she's already been in has shown her potential. Plus, she looks awesome as a Shadowhunter!

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is due out August 23, 2013 and this blogger has just marked out her calendar for the midnight premiere!

What do you guys think?

Finally Finnick Odair Casting Announced for Catching Fire

We've officially got our Finnick Odair for Catching Fire and his name is Sam Calflin. There has been a lot of speculation about this role but I was pretty sure he was going to get the part a few weeks ago when they said he'd auditioned several times and had cleared his schedule around the dates of Catching Fire. Finnick is my favorite character in the series so I've been watching the audition info very closely. I have to say, I'm not upset...

You're going to know Calflin best for his role in Snow White and the Huntsmen as that guy Snow White was supposed to be kissed by or in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, i.e. they should have stopped with the first three. He also played in Pillars of the Earth.

You can check out an "official" article here at The EW.

What do you guys think of the casting? I think he's going to do a really good job and am very excited to see him take on the role.

Several Awesome Movie Trailers and (finally) Some Mortal Instruments Casting News

So you know a little bool called The Mortal Instrument series? I thought I'd catch your attention. Well, you know how we've been waiting forever and a week for some movie news? We finally got some in the form of a new cast member.

French actress Jemima West has been cast as Isabelle Lightwood, the whip wielding bad girl with a tongue as sharp as a sword. I have to say, I think she looks good for the part. I'll be interested to see how she brings Isabelle's toughness to the screen.

From an article in Hypable, Cassandra Clare is quoted as saying:
She’s beautiful (like whoa) and really talented. You can see her as Vittoria on The Borgias right now. She had a lot of Izzy’s toughness and directness in her audition. I like her.
Cassandra Clare also says that Alec Lightwood has been cast and that "he is British and someone well known" but that won't be released until later.

So TMI fans, sound off! What do you think?

In other news, the movie trailers have been rolling out and there have been some fantastic movies on the rise. Check out a few of my favorites so far:

Obviously this one is going to be here. I've stuck with it this long so I'm not going to give up on it now. Want to know something else as well? I recently read an article that said that Lionsgate bought the rights to the Twilight franchise and some people are whispering a reboot in the near future (already). I'm really not sure how I feel about this...

Comes to theaters November 16, 2012.

This looks like a funky take on Glee and I am so in love. Seriously, the chick that calls herself Fat Amy had me cracking up the entire time in this trailer. This is a must see for me. I'll be right outside the theater door 30 minutes earlier to check out this one. I love me some Anna Kendrick!

Comes to theaters October 5, 2012.

I love Tim Burton so I know I'm going to like this film anyways. But the trailer looks so cool. It looks dark and action packed and everything I was hoping for.

Comes to theaters June 22, 2012.

Holy cow does this look amazing or what? It's got a stellar cast of young actors and actresses and it looks like it captures that feeling of youth. I am so stoked for this one!

Comes to theaters September 20, 2012.

This looks so cute! I love all the references to games I know and the idea of the villain not wanting to be bad anymore. I hope Ralph finds a place where he gets to be the hero. I'll definitely be tuning in for this one.

Comes to theaters November 2, 2012.

This captures all the glitz and glam of the novel and spins it out of control. The stakes are high, the colors vivid, the acting amazing and I'm pretty certain it's going for to be epic. Can't wait!

Comes to theaters December 25, 2012.

There's my list of must see movies coming out in the near months. What do you think? See anything there that you have to see too?

My Favorite Moments in The Hunger Games- A Mini Movie Review

Suffice to say I loved The Hunger Games movie. Really, everyone I’ve spoken to has loved it. I thought the casting was dead on, it didn’t stray too far from the book, the writing was perfect, the cinematography was great and it was just as brutal as it needed to be without overdosing on the violence.

I was thinking of writing up an in-depth review—we’re talking parts here, people—but decided to share my top ten moments and my very few complaints instead.

Top Ten Moments in The Hunger Games

1) Effie Trinket’s outraged and scandalized exclamation of “manners!” to Katniss after she attacked Peeta following the Flickerman interview. I could actually put “Any seen with Effie Trinket” here and it’d be true. Elizabeth Banks did an amazing job bringing those favoring odds to District 12

2) The first glimpse of the capitol. Like Peeta, I couldn’t wait to see where the people of the capitol call home. It looks like utopia amplified after seeing what Katniss and Peeta call home. Watching at they explore it further, peeling back layers of their gluttony is incredible.

3) Haymitch’s reaction to the capitol child getting a sword. It’s not the most powerful scene you’ll see but it’s one of them. It bastardizes everything the Districts are forced to go through and puts it into the eyes of the clueless capitol people. As the boy chases the girl around with the sword and Haymitch watches while probably re-living the horrors his hand has committed is so emotional. It also shows the viewer how the games have been reduced to child’s play in the capitol’s eyes even though it is children brutally murdering children.

4) The premiere of The Girl on Fire. As Katniss and Peeta rode out on their gold chariot behind the 22 teens they were going to end up killing, it was one of the most glorious things I’d ever seen. The fire effects were amazing and it made my jaw drop. I was especially happy because I wasn’t too impressed with the pictures of their outfits released.

5) The memory of The Boy with the Bread. I have to admit that it wasn’t how I imagined it but that wasn’t a problem. I loved how this memory was flashed at different times. It worked so well when Peeta was first introduced and I like how the director used it to show us how Katniss felt about Peeta. Even when she was angry at him, that scene would flash.

6) The gamekeeper’s room and equipment. This was an addition I could really get into. Seeing the behind the scenes of the games, how each control person could, with the touch of a finger, inflict a fresh new terror on the tributes was awesome.

7) The tracker jackers introduction and attack. I love how the movie introduced tracker jackers to the audience for those movie goers who haven’t read the book yet. Caesar explaining their side effects while the wasp is on screen in the back was amazing. Even better was watching those effects take place on Katniss and the unsuspecting Glimmer.

8) The cave scenes. We didn’t get to see too much of Peeta and Katniss together so these scenes were really vital. I thought Hutcherson did an awesome job of showing how much his character cared for Katniss and Lawrence did an equally good job of showing that the love was mostly one-sided. Plus, the scene with them lying side by side will be important in the next novel and Hutcherson gave me goose bumps as he tried to confess how he regrets throwing her the bread instead of handing it over.

9) Katniss shooting the apple. This is the first scene where we got to see the fire raging through her. Equal parts funny and fierce, it definitely left an impression on me!

10) The District 11 Riots. I didn’t tear up when Rue died and Katniss adorned her with flowers. But what got me was her districts reaction to her death. As Katniss saluted them and they saluted her back, it was absolutely the most powerful scene in the movie. Seeing the district rebel was horrifying and liberating in equal parts and I couldn’t turn my face away. It still gives me goose bumps thinking about it.

Those are some of my favorite things though there were countless other moments to love. This really was a well made movie and I have very few complaints. In fact, I can only think of two:

President Snow- I thought that Donald Sutherland understood what Snow was about. I read an interview with him talking about his preparation for the role and I really liked what he had to say. But I just wasn’t scared of him and I desperately wanted to be. Especially since I consider Snow as one of the scariest villains of all time. I just felt that Sutherland looked like Santa Claus which made him not very scary.

Katniss and Rue- I really liked their relationship, the short time it was on screen. I just wish they’d had a few more minutes with each other. Their time together was too brief and I wanted just a bit more to feel a connection to them. It made Rue’s death a little numb to me since I didn’t have enough to them to latch on to.

So overall, I’m very much a fan of this movie and plan on seeing it again soon. I’ve heard some complaints with the camera shakiness which I can understand. When I go back, I’ll be looking to see if it bothers me. As of now, I’m under the opinion that it dulled some of the violence and therefore was necessary but I’ll leave my final judgment for the second viewing.

What did you think? What were some of your favorite parts? Did you have any major complaints?

Fairytale Movies and Shows

I don't talk about my other interests on the blog very much though I did start out reviewing both books and movies. It's odd really because I love both but can't find the energy to actively chat about both. Needless to say, I really love movies and t.v. series though I try to keep the limit of shows I am watching down or I'd never have time to do anything else. One of those few shows I watch all the time is Once Upon A Time. I'm addicted to it! So I wanted to show some trailers for the two fairytale shows I watch and some upcoming fairytale movies!

T.V. Shows:

1) Once Upon A Time-

I love this show because it's got a classic storybook feel but it's also innovative, updating things and turning them on their head. It does a great job with characters and doesn't give too many character at once. It's funny guessing which fairytale character is who in the little town and I can't wait to find out what Snow White did to piss off the Evil Queen!

Actors: Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas

2) Grimm-

I've fallen in love with this show because I like that they constantly mix Nick's detective work with his Grimm responsibilities and he has to choose which is more important. I also love seeing how the re-imagine fairytales and creatures to tell a similar but different story.

Actors: David Giuntoli, Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell

3) Neverland-

This was a mini-series that just premiered on SyFy and I really wish it had been more than two episodes. It captured what Peter and his band of Lost Boys were about and gave an interesting look at how they got to Neverland. Seriously, make this a weekly series! I will watch, glued to my seat.

Actors: Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Charlie Rowe

Movies:

1) Jack the Giant Killer-

I really love the trailer for this one and can't wait to see what they do with it. Jack and the Beanstalk definitely isn't one of my favorite tales but I like that they used a storybook setting but are also mixing an epic battle ala Lord of the Rings in there.

Actors: Nicholas Hoult, Ewan MCGregor, Stanley Tuccis, Warwick Davis

2) Mirror, Mirror-

This looks really funny though it's hard to tell what it's really about. all I know is Julia Roberts' look hysterical and I'll see it just for that. Plus, it looks gorgeous with all the elaborate costumes and sets.

Actors: Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Ammie Hammer, Nathan Lane

3) Snow White and the Huntsman-

Is it just me or is K-Stew trying to make up for the sometimes weak Bella she portrays because this looks like it's going to call on her to be fierce. I've always liked her but a lot of people around me have lost faith. This Snow White has an epic fantasy feel a lot like Lord of the Rings. I can't wait to be swept away!

Actors: Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth

4) The Raven-

I love Edgar Allen Poe. He's always fascinated me ever since my teacher turned off the lights in sixth grade, made us lay our heads on our desk and listen to that creepy voice reading A Telltale Heart. So I love that they are making Poe a hero in this story and are using his works to inspire murders.

Actors: John Cusack, Luke Evans, Alice Eve

Other movies without trailers yet:

1) Arabian Nights (2014)- A young commander joins forces with Sinbad, Aladdin, and his genie to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from dark powers.

Actors: Liam Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson (rumored)

2) Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2012)- 15 years after their traumatic gingerbread-house incident, siblings Hansel and Gretel have become a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.

Actors: Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Peter Stormare

3) Maleficent (2013)-  Nothing on this one yet accept that it is following Maleficent, the villain of Sleeping Beauty, through her story.

4) Oz: The Great and Powerful (2013)- This is a prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) by L. Frank Baum, told from the point of view of the Wizard. It tells how the Wizard arrived in Oz and how he became the ruler.

Actors: Mila Kunis, James Franco, Michelle Williams

5) Peter Pan in Scarlet (2012)- The continuation of J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan," where a grown-up Wendy dreams that Neverland is in trouble and recruits her brothers and the Lost Boys to go back there and save the day.

6) The Piper (2013)- A bullied high school student unintentionally channels the spirit of the mysterious Pied Piper only to realize the terrifying consequences of his actions are well beyond his control.

7) Sleeping Beauty (2013)- A contemporary update on the fairy tale, where the fabled princess explores her dreamworld while trying to find a way out of it.

Actors: Hailee Steinfeld

There are a lot more coming, including my favorite Beauty and the Beast (with Emma Watson attached!), but these are the ones with information and some actors tied to them.

What's your favorite fairytale? Which one do you like from above?
